[TCEF Presentation] Promoting Students’ Uptake of Feedback: A Pedagogy of Feedback

How can teachers ensure that their assessment feedback practices have helped their students develop the ability to critically evaluate their own work, and achieve their learning objectives? Teachers from Edgefield Secondary School and Naval Base Secondary School presented their inquiry projects that explored a pedagogy of feedback at the Teachers’ Conference and ExCEL Fest (TCEF) in May 2023. Learn how the teachers aligned what they know and do in terms of assessment feedback with what their students do with teacher feedback and what they learn from acting on the feedback in the English Language and Literature classrooms.

View the TCEF presentation slides and read more about the teachers’ experiences in this SingTeach article.

Here are some questions for your reflection as you view the video recording of the TCEF presentation that is accessible in the OPAL Assessment Portal under the section ‘Involving learners in assessment’.

  • Why is it important to move my feedback practices away from just inspecting and correcting my students’ mistakes?
  • How do my feedback practices help my students think and learn from responding to feedback?
